John Eagle graduated from Lewis and Clark College. After graduation, he began a teaching and coach career that lasted for thirty-two years. For twenty-six of those years, John served as the head track and field coach at Fort Vancouver High School. During his time as the head coach at Fort Vancouver, Coach Eagle compiled a dual meet record of 244 – 41 – 1, including a winning streak of fifty-five dual meets in a row. Under his guidance, his teams won eleven league championships, nine district titles and two of his teams placed at the state championship meet. During his career, Coach Eagle developed many individual league, district and state placers, some of whom set records on each level. Under his leadership as the head coach, Fort Vancouver had nine individual state champions, such as Hurleen Bain and Stefanie Hunter.
