Lowell Wiggins graduated from Washington State University in 1925. He came to Highline High School in 1926 and took over the track and field team at that time. Under his guidance, Highline was a consistent entrant at the state championship meet. Coach Wiggins track and field teams won the state championship in 1931 and 1933. During his career, Coach Wiggins developed many individual standout track and field athletes. After Coach Wiggins stopped coaching and went into school administration, he continued to referee all track and field meets at Highline until his death in 1972. The Highline mile race is named the Lowell Wiggins Mile in his honor.
