Mike Burdick graduated from Evergreen High School in 1968. He was a 3 year letterman in track and field and an All-Conference safety in football. Mike attended Clark Community College in Vancouver Wa. He was a javelin thrower with a best of 191′ 08″ and a member of the State Champion 4×100 relay team (41.6) in 1972. Coach Burdick graduated from Portland State in 1974 with a B.S.degree and later a Masters from Lewis and Clark. Altogether, he taught for 39 years in the Parkrose and Evergreen School Districts.

Mike’s coaching career began in 1982 at Wy’east Junior High School where he spent 14 years. He moved on to Cascade Junior High School where he coached for three years. He moved on to Heritage High School, spending eight years as the head coach. Mike helped open Heritage as a school from the very first day. His teams produced 31 state finalists and two of the teams had top ten placings. There were too many league and district finalists to mention with numerous titles. He moved to Union High School the first year it opened, again helping to open from day one. He spent five years as the head coach. While at Union, Mike’s teams produced 76 district champions, 94 state qualifiers, 35 state meet finalists and seven state champions. His Union teams won four league titles, five district titles and had six top ten finishes at state. His men’s team won a Regional Championship at Union and his 2008 team placed 2nd at the State Championship Meet. Coach Burdick had a combined dual meet record of 117 wins and 35 losses. His memorable Invitational wins included Wilson, Willamette, Shelton, and South Kitsap. He was noted for recruiting huge teams at all levels, including an average of over 200 kids in his years at Cascade Junior High. Along his journey, Mike also coached 28 years of football on every level, 15 years of wrestling, 5 years of basketball, and 6 years of bowling.

Mike and his wife Nancy just celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary in November. They have two children, Ryan Burdick, who is married to Julie and Nicole Ceasar who is married to Lamar. Most importantly, he and his wife enjoy their four grandchildren, Rylie, Sydnie, Siena and Kendrick.
